Taken today South coast Uk about 4mm body length Platypezidae? Thanks Brian V. Obviously should have looked at the thread below- there's obviously an outbreak of them in Sussex  Eudorylas.

wow! Another Pipunculidae fly! I want to see these, and never found them.  do you know where in which plant this fly was? |

Probably another Eudorylas. And for the record: The only delicate thing about the flies is the attachment of the head to the thorax. Too violent movement and the head may fall off. Otherwise, they are just as sturdy as, say, hoverflies. Paul - - - - Paul Beuk on https://diptera.info |

Not Eudorylas but Pipunculus, mesonotum uniformly covered in hair, looks like a female P. campestris to me. |

In my memory Pipunculus had longer hairs, but it's been a while since I properly looked at pipunculids.
