Taken today near a deciduous forest in Hungary. The fly was roughly 5-7 mm long. EDIT Paul Beuk: Changed Tephritidae in title to Platystomatidae.

 Hi Paul! Thank you for the corrigation. Is this family closely related to the Tephritidae? What are the main differences between the two family? Are their habit and lifestyle similar? Thank you in advance! |

Thank you in advance!i don't know if they are close to Tephritidae but two days ago i have seen couple of specimens togheter (also photographed... but from what i have seen here, for now, are now people for this family, so i will not post them), some other flies also, and an exemplar of Euphydryas maturna sucking from the rest of a strongly developed ebrion of Turdus philomelos or Sturnus vulgaris (the eggshell was very deteriorated... so not sure about the species). in the rest all specimens i have seen where on stem or leaves of different bushes. so maybe this helps you a little, cosmln |
