Hi all, This (presumably) Eristalis hoverfly caught my eye in an area of heathland on Fairmile Common yesterday afternoon. Abdomen shape and markings didn't seem right for E. pertinax, and the white on the hind tibia presumably eliminate E. tenax. I'm guessing that it is one of the other confusion species of which I have very little experience with, so any help would be much appreciated! Unfortunately, I only managed to get this image of it, so completely understand if it isn't do-able from just the one angle. Thanks in advance, Bill billsbirding.blog... EDIT: That's weird... it won't let me attach the photo. The 'chosen file' just seems to disappear whenever I publish or preview the post. Edited by billsbirding on 23-05-2014 01:46 |

Sorry, just bumping this up a bit. Any takers? I still have absolutely no idea why the photo isn't attaching, but the link to Flickr is working fine Thanks again. |

A female of Eristalis arbustorum, if the arista is plumose, otherwise E. abusiva. |
