Syrphidae ?
Robert Heemskerk
Hello Flyforum,

Today I found this 'strange' fly in low(wet) vegetation in the Amsterdam Forest.
I though it was Syrphidae sp. and perhabs Cheilosia?
But what kind of Cheilosia? and is it Syrphidae indeed?

size ~10-15mm
colour of thorax blue-green metalic shiny

Cheilosia Variabilis ?

I am wondering what it is Wink

Hi,

Cheilosia albitarsis (probably) or ranunculi.

Regrads,
Dieter

Thank you for your comment Dieter,

I think you are right and it is Cheilosia albitarsis.
When I have a close look to the first leg (tarsus II, III and IV) then you can see that the colour is yellow-white.
Must be Cheilosia albitarsis I think?

Hi,

this character is important for ID of the species group that contains albitarsis and ranunculi. These taxa have a different shape of the last tarsomere of the fore leg. Unfortunately, this is not quite clear on the foto but it seems it is albitarsis. A fully reliable ID requires to check the genitalia.

Regards,
Dieter
