Hello Tony and Hedy, I noticed this thread white looking for pictures of Scatella. This one keys certainly to Scatella silacea, but it would be new for the Netherlands. Can you be 100% sure Tony, or do we need a specimen for definite ID?

Oops! Thanks for drawing my attention to this - big mistake on my part. The apparent absence of post-sutural acrostichals may have thrown me, but it's a poor excuse - the colour of this specimen clearly makes it subguttata. Scatella silacea has a dark scutellum and both the scutellum and thoracic dorsum are quite shiny, not dull as in this specimen. I am sure that under a microscope the scars of the acrostichals would have been evident. If you want to find silacea, try coastal seepages where water is constantly trickling down a clay face. Or a sewage treatment plant where trickle filters are being used. The larvae seem to like a thin meniscus of water in which to live. Thanks for having a look at this thread, these Scatella are pretty difficult! I'm trying to get an image of the different species, so this certainly helps. I have never seen a picture of specimen of S. silacea, so that makes it more difficult. I try if I can find a suitable habitat for this species here, maybe it is somewhere around
