Hello! No, I don't mean Helophilus ;-) of which were two species very abundant today, but a house fly sized Eristalis like fly with conspicuous thorax stripes but nearly no abdominal markings. The fly visited several blossoms of Calystega sepium (don't know the exact english name, a binding weed) today here in Ostwestfalen/Germany. The most similar fly I could find is Anasimyia lineata, but this species does not have such a plain abdomen. Thanks for any hints! Hello, Jan and Paul! Jan Willem wrote: Hint might be Ferdinandea cuprea!? Thanks, that fits perfectly! I didn't think of that species, because I thought it would not occur here in Ostwestfalen.
