Any ideas on this fly? Taken this afternoon in my garden in Rye Harbour, East Sussex. Seems to a fairly common species hereabouts |

Looks a bit like a Carcelia sp. but I'd need to see it closer to know which one - or at least confirm the genus. The genus Carcelia is a bit tricky but it's an interesting group that has had a couple of recent additions to the UK list. I'd be happy to look at it if you took a specimen  |

Great, thanks ... i find a few hours in the freezer compartment does the trick nicely You can keep them in there for at least a few days and when you thaw them out they're nicely relaxed |

The tibiae are quite dark for most Carcelia, this should be an important clue to its identity. Or it's another genus after all (Huebneria ?) Hope to hear the result Theo |
