Piophilidae, June 05, 2007
Dmitry Gavryushin
Size ca. 3.5 mm. Observed around 8 p.m. in an overgrown clearing on a fallen Pinus sylvestris (supported by another tree at 30 degrees, with Clusioides ruficollis on decorticated wood at its broken base). Spent quite a while chasing them up and down the trunk.

Another view.

This one was made indoors.

With some characters not visible it is not easy for me to run it through the key, but it could be Allopiophila luteata, so Piophilidae and not Psilidae.

Many thanks Paul - frankly, I suspected it's Piophilidae, so no wonder I ran the key for Psilidae in vain - but why on a tree trunk and not carrion?

Paul Beuk
Maybe some decaying fungi or other decaying matter give of the same odour as some carrion?

Paul is right, Allopiophila luteata (Haliday)

Many thanks for the confirmation Andrey.
