Hi everybody, I'll recently found the species Loxocera albiseta in Belgium. I identify the species with the Dutch key of Van der Goot and Van Veen. They mentionned this species from Belgium but in the Catalogue of Belgian Diptera I did not find anything about it although the key was written before the Catalogue. My question is : Is Loxocera albiseta a new species for Belgium or not? Pierre-Nicolas Pierre-Nicolas |

In the Fauna Europaea database (www.faunaeur.org) Loxocera albiseta is not listed from Belgium either, but that is probably based on the "Catalogue of Belgian Diptera". However, since Van der Goot and Van Veen mention this species from Belgium, it is apparently not new for Belgium ! The Fauna Europaea database is not upto date for many families. For the Psilidae not a single species is mentioned from The Netherlands! Jan Willem Edited by Jan Willem on 05-09-2005 11:21 |

The Catalogue was mainly based on the Brussels collection, unless there was a specialist contributing. If no identified material was catalogue for that collection and if no specialist volunteered to do the family, then the chances are that the information used is for from complete.
