unknown feeding pattern on Alnus, 2015-07-03
Lennart Bendixen
Hello,

for which insect larva is this feeding pattern typical, does somebody know that?

Thanks for your help!

Lennart

That's possible indeed! I've seen Phyllonorycter nicellii / froelichiella in the same hedge, so it wouldn't be unlikely. Thanks for the good hint!

empeejay
Certainly not!

See this. It also feeds on Alnus.

You're right, there are no mines visible in my leaf, as opposed to the ones in lepiforum.
So Tenthredinidae fits even better - thank you!

According to Lorenz / Kraus there are several species feeding on Alnus, but unfortunately they didn't add any pictures Wink

I see no problem that you don't see any mine there. "Mines" can start there life and die at any time within process for whatever reason.
If I would speculate I wold say we see feeding damage of caterpillar which later/before creates tent (lepiforum), but that is speculation.
