I photographed this fly in October 2012 in Lelydorp, Para district, Suriname. It was apparently dead for some time when I found it, given the missing body parts. Am I correct to assume it is a Syrphidae? Is a narrower ID possible? I'm trying to get the fungus ID elsewhere. Thanks in advance, Scarabaeoid Edited by Auke on 26-12-2015 06:07 Your invert guide in Suriname. |

It was a male a male Palpada sp., indeed a syrphid. The fungus could be one of the Cordyceps sp., these are specialised on arthropods....

Thank you! And the fungus is not a Cordyceps but an Ophiocordyceps (name changed some time ago). Edited by Auke on 26-12-2015 06:11 Your invert guide in Suriname. |
