Protocalliphora azurea
Cor Zonneveld
In one of my previous posts, Nikita IDed a fly as Bellardia sp. This one is similar, yet different where the devil is. It has red eyes, and a more briliantly coloured abdomen with green and blue. Is this Belladia too? Can it be IDed at species level?

Dutch dunes, last sunday. Moderate size, 8 - 10 mm. Close to a canal. I guess the plant is Hemlock, but I didn't have the guts to taste it...

Dr Jason H Byrd, a forensic entomologist, preliminary agrees with the ID Protocalliphora azurea. He will confirm/correct later when he's certain. He expects the photo's suffice to ID this fly.
