Sorry I didn't state it before. Definitely more than 20mm.

Well, everybody tends to overestimate size of living animals.
I bet the head-to-tail distance is 18-20 mm.
Anyway, also the male of autumnalis.
Yes, this species is pretty variable !

One of America's most accurately estimated insects is one of the largest. Large males of Corydalus cornutus can be 15 cm long from the tip of the 4 cm mandibles to the tip of the wings.

Flies are usually reported as 2-3 times actual size.
