Unknown Conopid
Andreas Haselboeck
Hello,
can anyone identify this fly - perhaps Conops quadrifasciatus?

i16.tinypic.com/5z44ith.jpg

Found near Frankfurt / Germany. Sorry, I have only this one picture from the back.

Best regards
Andreas

The yellow scutellum rules out Conops quad, and most other Conops in Europe except scutellatus or silaceus. I would guess this to be Conops scutellatus, which is not a common species (and absent here in the UK).

Or it is a Leopoldius ?

Could be a Leopoldius, but I am pretty familiar with the European 'black & yellow' Leopoldius (new key in preparation), and this specimen does not look right for this genus to me.

Thank you very much for your feedbacks concerning my fly. G?nter Schwendinger already pointed out the problem of differentiation between Conops and Leopoldius. Without a foto of the front or at least from the side it is almost impossible to classify it. So I will put it into my archives as unknown.
Best wishes
