Yesterday I found this Scaeva (June 12th 2016, France, Indre, Saint Gilles). It was a big fly (ca. 15 mm). In another forum it was suggested that this might be Scaeva dignota (male). The yellow spots do reach the border, but I have understood that that is not always decisive. In one post I read that you could see the difference in the angle of the eyes, but I can't find what difference that is. Can someone give me a clue? Thank you very much Lukasz. I have read your article and have seen the pictures of the heads. That makes it very clear my specimen is Scaeva selenitica. Tjitske Tjitske Lubach |
