The bristles seem very long and prolific, and the abdomen a bit broad and short, so I think it is Eriothrix rufomaculata.

Mintho rufiventris - note the laterally compressed abdomen and 2 bold black bars on the anterior part of the thorax. Eriothrix has more black bars and an abdomen that is as wide as it is tall. Smile

As Chris explained before, he is so anxious to get Mintho himself that he can recognize it from virtually every angle !
Now is the best time, Chris

If it would stop raining here I would try! Wink But actually it is quite rare here and with a very sporadic/random distribution.

I guess this and this image also shows this species from Hungary. This species should be rather unmistakable if I understand it correctly.

Yes ... and Yes ... and quite easy to mistake for Eriothrix rufomaculata but it is not too difficult to identify them from good photos when you know the differences Wink

Curses Angry - I wasn't totally convinced with E rufomaculata, but completely forgot about Mintho (which I have never seen, anyway).

Very useful discussion though, so thanks Chris.

An absolutely torrential rainstorm has just finished outside my office window here in the City of London.
