Tony, Theo thx for the help with this and other recent threads of mine. We are far away from any river, some 30 kms or so. I think this species must also be associated with temporary waters, otherwise I would have seen them in earlier years. If I see three lines in the eye and an orange flank, does it mean that the fly belongs to this species. I must have made some 50 images and collected 10+ of this or very similar species. HO... Stop. There are many species of Hybomitra, most of them have orange sidemarkings and hairy eyes with 3 bands. You are bound to have more than 1 species. There might be interest ones among them. I myself caught H. acuminata, a salt-species, in the Hortobagy, not far from your place. H. ciureai is the dominant species in Tiszafured. If you want, I can ID your material for you.
