 Asilidae with white & metallic purple wings

Hi all, I observed this small fly acting in a very special way : From the little branch on witch it was perched, it was going away very fast and caming back at the same place few seconds after. It did it like this several times and flew off definitivly. The white and metallic purple color on the wings are remarquable. Size is about 1cm max. Observed in Caramy valley, Var (83), France, on 07/07/2007. Do you have any precisions about species it could be ? Regards, Stephan |

It's a species of the genus Holopogon. |
