Bombyliidae from Rhodes: true Exoprosopa dispar ( I think)
piros
I found these flies near Faliraki, Rhodes, between the dates 22/06 and 26/06 of 2016. I think they are Exoprosopa dispar, showing the unique discal cell with a strongly kinked m-m vein. Can someone confirm (or correct) this ID?
Thanks for any help in advance!
Regards,
Henrik

For comparison, I upload a picture of a fly, which I think is an Exoprosoma minos female .

Hi, Henrik! Smile

I think you must be right! Smile I see this species is much closer to Heteralonia rivularis (Exoprosopa rivularis for other authors) than E. minos, in shape, venation (including the strongly kinked m-m vein) and silvery frons of the male. And this explains why dispar and rivularis are placed in the same dichotomy in the keys. It is difficult to understand why so many ID mistakes have been made through the years. Clearly dispar and minos have very little in common.

I think the mystery has been solved! Wink Congratulations!!

Many thanks Piluca! Do you thinks some of these pics would be good enough for the gallery? (Just to help others avoid the confusion...)
Greetings,
Henrik
