Chrysops, but which?
Michael Becker
Hello,

this fly visited us during a trip to Br?ggen (western germany). I hope, genus Chrysops is correct. Is it possible to say something about the species?

Thanks,
Michael

Can't see enough of it, unfortunately.

It should be Chrysops (Chrysops) sp. If my recently acquired literature is reliable, this should be close to C. (C.) caecutiens based on the wing pattern and the abdominal pattern. For exact determination the face and the legs should be visible.

Unfortunately my wife chased it away, although I said her not to move. So no more photos. I will label it Crysops cf. caecutiens, which seems to be not too rare here.

Thanks for your answers,
Michael
