What family does Melanomya (nana) belong to? According to Fauna Europaea it belongs to Calliphoridae, but I saw in this thread that Tony spoke about Rhinophoridae. Could anyone enlighten me please ? Thanks. Stephane. |

Traditionally Melanomyia was placed in the Rhinophoridae, based on the shape of the calyptrae. In the 1970's or so, it became apparent that this feature is not 100 % reliable. Since then, Melanomyia has been reared from snails, which settles the argument instantly: Melanomyia was transferred to Calliphoridae Theo |
