Silver fly - Calliphoridae?
Sundew
Hello,
On 24 July I photographed a nice silvery fly sitting on the wall of our block of flats just opposite the bin shed. It is shown in the first three pictures. On 5 August there were a lot more of them in the same place, so they came probably out of the dustbins. Some had a coppery shine, and some were rather green. I learned from the forum that Lucilia starts green and becomes coppery, but is it silvery at the beginning of its adult life?
Information is gratefully anticipated by

Here are the pictures from 5 August.

The silvery fly looks teneral to me - it has just emerged from its puparia, as can be seen by the swollen face. Thus the body and wing colouration hasn't been fixed and so it could very well be a Lucilia 'in disguise' Wink

That is extremely interesting. I would never have expected such a drastic change in colour. Neither I saw a comparable picture. Should we add one silvery state to the gallery, or is this confusing?
Many thanks, Chris!

Too confusing i think - just watch for that swollen face - it is very distinctive in teneral flies. Smile
