Asilidae ID? La Rioja, Argentina

Buenas, mi primer posteo por acá, me gustaría saber si se pueden identificar estos ejemplares, al parecer de la misma especie, hallados en el Parque Nacional Talampaya, La Rioja, Argentina el 26/02/2017. El ambiente es Monte de Llanuras y se encuentra aproximadamente a los 1.200 m s.n.m.

This is a female Lochmorhynchus sp. -- very much like a Proctacanthus...

Hi Reinoud,

Both genera are in the 'Apocleine' group of Asilinae (w/o anatergal setae); distinctive, as both w/ r4 & r5 veins ending in costa above tip of wing. Lochmorhynchus ovipositor w/ apical pair of flap-like appendages, no spines; restricted to so. S. Amer. (Argentina & Chile). Proctacanthus (+ Taurhynchus, Eccritosia & Proctacanthella) have apical cluster of spines on ovipositor, are widespread in Americas.
