Hi A friend of mine: Anthony Gould took this photo on 15th August 2007 in Arizona. This is, I think, a Poecilognathus sp. It was feeding on desert marigold. Perhaps P. unimaculatus (but we must see dorsal view to be sure). This photo was granted by him. This beautiful bombyliid is confirmed as a female of Poecilognathus unimaculatus.
