Searching again after your clue...

Tolmerus atricapillus could be a possibility?

Somebody to help, please?

What do you think about being Tolmerus atricapillus?

Thanks.

I am sorry, rockomic but Asilinae are a nightmare and particularly in Spain, where too much is still unknown. I simply cannot see enough in those pictures to tell the species. It is a male and belongs to the subfamily Asilinae. And it is within the group of Machimus genera, very difficult to tell apart. Good views of the male genitalia need to be seen.

'Colours' seem to be right for Tolmerus atricapillus but that is not enough to ID Machimus group. What I can see of the genitalia looks a bit 'slim' to my eyes for T. atricapillus. I need to see the hypopygium in lateral view and the projection of the last sternite to be sure.

Reinoud has much more experience with Tolmerus atricapillus (very common in his area). But if he hasn't said anything in these days I don't have much hope that he sees it clearly. He would have said something.

Thanks anyway, Piluca.

I know now it's another difficult group to tell exactly the species and even the genera.

Let's wait to Reinoud and if it's not possible to ID I think the best is to leave Machimus group.

I'm sorry, but i can't ID it from this picture, my gut tells me it is a Tolmerus sp.
Greetings,

Reinoud

Well, so I think the best option is to leave Tolmerus sp.
