Found on the trunk of a (live) peach tree. Measured 6.1 mm from the front of the eyes to the rear of the wings.

Meadow near forest, West Virginia USA.

6 May 2007.

Thanks, Nikita, that sounds like a wise choice. I have a series of photos of a similar fly (maybe the same species), but a different individual. I just found those images from my summer shooting, and will post them soon. Maybe with some different views (different angles) we may come up with a certain ID.

In the Nearctic there is the 'obscura' group of the genus Minettia. Might well be the same as the subgenus Frendelia where longipennis also belongs.
