Dennis
Hallo!

Bavaria, 8.April
Found these black fly in a sunny forest, near a creek.
I dont know the lenght, I guess it was 5mm-1cm. She flew like a Syrphidae. I have no idea which family it is.

Regards,
Dennis

Hello Dennis,

It's not a she, but a he. And he is a Syrphidae indeed. A male Cheilosia morio. Nice find. Within the genus this species has a quite different larval habitat. Normally Cheilosia species live within herbs. But the larvae of C. morio live in exuding sap from Picea trees.
For comparison here's some photo's from the Netherlands:
https://waarneming.nl/soort/photos/197804
And here's the paper reporting the species new for the Netherlands (with English summary): http://www.repository.naturalis.nl/document/555357
It seems to be expanding its range in Europe.

Greetings,

Ectemnius

Dennis
Thank you Ectemnius!

There are not many information to find about the spieces.

Regards,
Dennis
