what Tabanid have I seen here?
Seen in Juli in the Zillertal Alps at >2000m a.s.l

In the gallery, there are only entries under H. auripila. Is its actual status that of a subspecies of H. aterrima or a full species?

Auripila is currently considered as a variety of aterrima.

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
