Is it true that Panorpa vulgaris, male is in the picture?

Can Panorpa vulgaris be a synonym for Panorpa communis?

yes.

No. You can distinguish the two species (on a photo) by the fact that the basal spot extends over two wing cells in P. vulgaris (see arrows) and only one in P. communis.

Jürgen: I see many errors on the internet. P. vulgaris is often misidentified as P. communis and vice-versa. I am happy that you post correct info about Panorpa. I like Panorpa very much. Well done, Jürgen Smile

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
