Tachinidae ? Second attempt

Hi, This is a Tachinidae (?) I photographed in Ceranac, in the Dordogne, France in early September. Any suggestions as to identity please. Sorry the quality is not the best. Many thanks Gordon I think I,ve found the problem with with previous uploading. 'If all else fails read the instructions'. Which I have now done. I used caps for the file extension. Sorry |

I agree, but it IS a Tachinid! Congratulations. You can see the bend in vein M (though not as sharp as in many other Tachinids, I agree). Another big clue, if you know where to look for, is the long proboscis. It is extended into the flower on the picture. This is a clear hint: it is a member of the genus Siphona. Impossible to tell the species, Siphona is the most difficult genus in Tachinidae in Europe to identify. I won't even try. Theo Zeegers |
