Tabanidae from... Gabon!! - Tabanus cf. secedens
jorgemotalmeida
Hi

This photo was taken by Axel Rouvin, that grants me to show the photo. He want to know the species that this fly can belong... It was taken on 15 Aug. 2007 in Estuaire - Gabon. It is very distinctive and a beautiful tabanid.
Maybe, Theo you know this one.
Some kind of Tabanus, I think... Theo ? Smile

IF it's ove 14 mm., I would say

Male Tabanus secedens

Common species in western and central Africa.

Great picture

Theo, Axel told to me that this fly had that size you told. Wink

And he authorized to use this photo for gallery. Smile

The ID is tentative, since it's a male, and I have only females.
Nevertheless, I'm pretty confident it is secedens or close relative.
