Flies from Israel
GlassOWater
Hello everyone,
Here are a few pictures of flies I have lying around undetermined.

To the first one: I originally thought this to be Lucilia sericata, but it was suggested to me that this is in fact a muscid. Seems failiar?

GlassOWater
Oops, I thought I cropped it a lot tighter...

Stephane Lebrun
Yes, Muscidae. Neomyia, and I think I can say cornicina, even if it is from Israel.
And Welcome ! Smile
Stephane.

Thanks! You replied much faster than I had expected!

We have a lot (If not most) European species, while some color difference does exist sometimes.

I live in Jerusalem, and I've seen the famous velvet spiders of course. No picture, though. I like the species eith the yellow male (I mean, you have red salticids, so the red Eresus is not to special).

And if we're done with the first one, let's move on to the next one: Any chance for a determination of species within Cylindromiya?

Ok sorry. I will open a new thread then.

How can you tell Neomyia cornicina and N. viridiscens apart? They look the same to me. Shock

Stephane Lebrun
Differing chaetotaxy :
N. cornicina -> 1 presut ac and 3 post dc
N. viridescens -> 0 presut ac and 4 post dc

Greetings.
Stephane.

GlassOWater
Hmmm... I need some more help. I understand what is chaetotaxy, but I do not understand the rest. What is ac/dc (Not current types, I assume...)

ChrisR
ac - acrostichal bristles (the 2 longitudinal rows in the middle of the dorsum)
dc - discocentral bristles (the 2 longitudinal rows outside the ac)
presut - presutural (anterior to the transverse thoracic suture)
post - postsutural (posterior to the transverse thoracic suture)

Smile
