 Eristalis similis?

Hi, I hope these pics are good enough, my only real reason for thinking this is Eristalis similis is the very strong pterostigma on the wings. Any suggestions welcomed!  Location: Lincoln UK Habitat: Garden location on Dahlia species, sandy soil. Date: 22nd September 2007. Thanks! |

Unfortunately... the front tarsi are yellow, therefore its E. pertinax. John |

Thank you John! That is one thing I di pick up recently, the feet colour, but I did not know if E. similis also had the same coloured feet.  |

Nope, black. And E. pertinax is the only other species that can have such an elongated pterostigma, besides E. similis. John |

Hmmm, I thought perhaps it was taken off because he was launching a new book. I have searched, looked on Google Scholar too, no luck! I don't know if I could justify buying a book, but I guess we can't really expect these things for free. |
