Ctenophora pectionicornis (m) or Tanyptera atrata (m)
JarJar
Hi there,

is it possible to ID this one? Maybe Ctenophora pectionicornis (male) or Tanyptera atrata (male)?

Thanks a lot and best regards,
Chris

Seen in: Germany, Baden-Württemberg, Freiburg im Breisgau, Rieselfeld, about 20mm, 26 April 2007

The two are rather similar indeed, and T. atrata is very variable as to abdomen colouring. It is a pity that we cannot have a closer look at the antennae, but the segments seem to be more complex in C. pectinicornis (compare http://edepot.wur... or https://ccw.natur..._2013e.pdf). The black mesonotum and the partly red, less complex antennae make me vote for T. atrata. The more constant abdominal pattern of C. pectinicornis does also not match well...
Regards, Sundew

Dear Sundew,

thanks a lot for your answer! Maybe the following picture can help to identify the animal Smile
As you wrote - a closer look at the antennae is useful - here we go. It´s not perfect - but I think better then the last one...

Best regards from the south of Germany,
Chris

T. atrata is still my favourite...
