Hi * locality - near Lagoa Comprida - Serra da Estrela - PORTUGAL * date - 2007.10.06 * size - 13 mm (large fly) * habitat - openland * substrate - on granite It was cold. About 10 ?C. Good time for Trichoceridae.. but I'm not sure if this is really Trichoceridae. Do you agree? EDIT---> Title changed from "Trichoceridae? (snow gnat)" to "Trichoceridae - Trichocera sp. another... this fly close its wings in rest. Tipulidae usually never do this.. i don?t know if there any exceptions. |

antennas are very slender; wings close when in rest; it seems to have typical venation for Trichoceridae; legs very long without bristles.. it would be great if this could be Trichocera annulata  |

I think this is Trichocera, but possibly not annulata.

thanks, Gabor. Anyone can give the species for this one? I'm specially interested in this one. This fly seems to be so fragile. |

WELL, this is not Trichocera annulata. According to the Dra. Ewa Krzeminska this is Tricochera regelationis due the fact that there is "a dark cloud on r-m. (It is Trichocera regelationis, female.)"

a photo that shows a very small discal cell. T. annulata would have a very long discal cell. |

I decided to show the nomenclature for this Tipuloid fly Dra. Eva helped me to fix specially the R2, and Cu veins... the rest was ok.
