These Tachinids can be hard, hard hard to identify. I have had to give up on this one after running into several blind alleys. So, can Theo or Chris provide any clues as to what genus this might be? Theo, Your insight is truly amazing! It certainly appears to be Pelatachina tibialis. I ran it backwards through Belshaw's key and I think couplet 129 threw me, where it gives a choice of orange femora or dark grey or brown. This fly has black femora rather than extremely dark grey. Apart from that everything fits the choices in the couplets.  I am going to post a second problem Tachinid now for another challenge for you!
