With a male like this, the easiest thing is to make a genitalia prep (on a slide) and compare it to some pictures! Wink

Thank you very mutch, Tony.
Unfortunately, I have no information about Chironomidae.
There exists a publication with keys and/or male genitalia drawings for separating the different european genuses?

May be the answer to my question is in
http://www.dipter...&pid=35240
In the Appendix of the Contributions to a Manual of Palearctic Diptera there are 200 pages on Chironomidae.

That's the answer! Wink
Alternatively you could get hold of Pinder, L.C.V 1978 A key to adult males of British Chironomidae. Freshwater Biological Association Scientific Publication no.37 (2 volumes) - It's a bit out of date, and only does the British species, but it's a very good introduction to the family - and much cheaper than the Manual of Palaearctic Diptera! manual of Palaearctic diptera should drop the price a lot.Angry But I can understand that their huge work must be paid.

Thank you for your suggestion, Tony.
I own the volumes 2 and 3 of the Manual, but the Appendix seems to be harder to find in the bookstores Sad
