Pierre Duhem : France : Bessans : 73480 : 09/08/2019
Altitude : 1680 m - Taille : 3-4 mm
Réf. : 241017

This critter is on a Notodontidae caterpillar. Initially, I thought it was a parasit. With the time, I thinks it was only resting there.
What do you think about it?

I think it is a female Forcipomyia sp (Ceratopogonidae).
Maybe John Carr or Tony Irwin can confirm it.

Best wishes,
John

Hello again,

i made a post before about a similar specimen:
https://diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=85028

so it is a female Forcipomyia sp.

Best wishes,
John

The usual species on caterpillars is Forcipomyia fuliginosa.

Thanks a lot to both of you.

Should I put the picture in the gallery?
