Hello, This November 11, 2019 in the south of France. 8.5 mm - 10.5 mm total with wings. Unlike other Syrphidae which still fly in this season, this one keeps its wings closed at rest and when it eats. Edited by Liliane D on 12-11-2019 00:35 |

Hello Liliane, I am not sure, whether the yellow spots on the abdomen are triangular (then it should be a female of Melanostoma scalare) or rectangular (in this case it should be a female of Platycheirus sp.). Hello and thank you very much Jürgen, On this picture, we can see a little better the yellow spots but I can't say their exact shapes. |

In Melanostoma the spots look like on the picture below.
