 Fausta nemorum male <- Tachinidae?

Hi, I found this big fly (approx. 12-15 mm) on a lime leaf in a deciduous forest Middle Franconia (Naturpark Frankenhöhe) on 20190518. With it's orange but very hairy eyes it looks like a hybrid of tachinid and sarcophagid! Any help and idea is highly appreciated. I don't know of any Sarc with such features but i could be wrong. It isn't a Calliphoridae so it must be a freak specimen of Tachinidae. perhaps Exoristini? John and Nini. Naturalists not experts. |

Hi John, thanks for your efforts and it's quite similar but I'm not sure - Eurithia as well as Panzeria (Ernestina) who's resemblant in habitus show some brown/yellow colours... Thanks, Eric |

I've tried to find this fly again in 2020 but no success. So I improved the photos as much as possible and shall be grateful if Eurithia consobrina could be confirmed or replaced. Thanks a lot in advance! Eric |

OK. This is “” clearly “” (yes, that is irony) the male of Fausta nemorum. the appendix to bend in vein M is a big clue as is the broad central vitta on thorax. Very rare in central Europe. Tsch & H mention it for BW and BY. I am not sure if Franconia qualifies as Bayern, sounds more like Hessen (?) to me. In any case : GREAT RECORD. Theo |
