Little spider
Alvesgaspar
Quite small spider (~4mm), very common in Portugal. I'm sure it is easy to ID for someone knowing a little more than me. I suppose it is a male?...

Salticidae. Yep, a male. But I would need another photo - dorsal view and with less zoom. Wink

Menemerus semilimbatus I think.

and you are right! But a dorsal view would confirm this. Smile

From this pont of view, I'm retracted and I now say Menemerus bivittatus.

This is not Menemerus semilimbatus - http://salticidae...hol-ph.htm -- with the new photos. Smile

Menemerus sp. - I never saw a Menemerus like this one. I have doubts concerning bivittatus.
http://salticidae...vit-pc.jpg -- Marpissa melanognatha is a synonym for M. bivittatus.

I have photos of this spider M. bivittatus - ID 100% reliable because my friend expert Silva checked the genitalia - http://www.aranhas.info/index.php?option=com_fichas&Itemid=43 go to Salticidae and then choose (below) the M. bivittatus. Wink

Hi,
this is my first post in this forum, so, first here goes my "Hi to everyone" Wink

Alvesgaspar: These photos are not from the same spider. The first one is a Menemerus semilimbatus (probably a young female) like Isidro noticed. The second and third are from a different spider.
Notice the following if you're in doubt:

Head region of carapace: dark with a white triangular mark on the first one; Light on second one.
Carapace in general: red, black and white hairs on Menemerus, black and white on the other one. The pattern of the second one looks like a Salticus mutabilis.
Near the pedicel, the anterior part of abdomen as well as part of carapace have a well defined black mark wich is not present in the first one.
Abd+ominal markings are also different in both (black spots on Menemerus, absent in the other one).
So, in fact, these photos do not refer to the same spider.
Wink
