Syrphidae or muscidae ?
Alvesgaspar
I'm putting this thread in the Syrphidae section but I'm really not sure it is one. The abdomen and wings are like the hoverflies', by the thorax I would say it is a muscidae. Please help.

Calliphoridae (or Rhiniidae). Maybe Stomorhina lunata.

Thanks, Rui, I think your guess of Stomorhina lunata is right. I didn't recognize it because I usually see the wings parallel to the body. Any other opinions?

No other options.
Any time you think: IS it Muscidae/Calliphoridae or Syrphidae, I bet you have Stomorhina lunata (as long as you don't leave Europe)

Thank you, Theo. It appears then then I'm not alone with this kind of confusion Wink

You're definitely not alone in this case. I guess everyone does the same when they find Stomorhina for the first time. I certainly did Smile
