 Sphaeroceridae : Crumomyia fimetaria/roserii

I have tried to determine this Copromyzinae with Pitkins- the lesser dung flies and the key leads me to Crumomyia roserii - 1: Postocular setae in irregular rows. -2: One pair of well-developed setae on postpronotal lobe. - 3: Wings fully developed and hindtibia without anteroventral setae about the middle. -4: It is a small species,2,4-2,5 mm with shining anepisternum and yellow-brown tibiae. But when I compare with pictures of C.roserii it is a black fly (except for the tibiae) and so are all the other european Crumomyia as far as I can see.Where have I gone wrong ? or is my fly newly hatched and not fully coloured yet ? The fly was found in june25,in the middle part of Sweden,on a bucket with nutrition-water for the garden.Lots of horses in the close neighborhood. Edited by Patrik E on 03-03-2020 10:44 |

Hi Patrick, Teneral Copromyzinae are generally this colour, if there is a distinction between the tibia and femora in colour i.e. you can tell the femora will be black/dark and the tibia light then C roserii should be fine. |

Thanks for the quick reply and for explaining the pale colour ! There is no obvious colour difference tibia/femora and even the anepimeron is mostly polished and shining,so this should be a teneral C.fimetaria,the species closest to C.roserii in the key. Best Regards Patrik |
