Safaria sp. (Sphaerocerinae, Spaeroceridae)
Dermochelys
Dear all,

One of my friend, is sorting some material from Ivory Coast collected by Malaise trap.
She found this unique specimen (for now) of a diptera (see the photo).
This diptera has two longitudinal carinae on its dorsal mesosoma, those carina covered by hooked seta, two bump with hooked seta on the top of the head, also the apex of scutellum has some hooked setae, and a very long arista...

Looking at the wing it could be something related to the Piophilidae but I am absolutely not confident about that.

Please find here the first photo (sorry for the quality). The second photo is coming.

Thank you for your help!
Yves

Hello Dermochelys,

A Sphaeroceridae of the subfamily Sphaerocerinae, probably the genus Ischiolepta. If you want it identified you'd have to send it to Jindrich Rohacek.

Kind regards,

Ectemnius
