Bibionidae - Bibio anglicus ?
maxi6215
Hello,

I observed this Bibio the 30th of April in the north of France, approximately 8 mm. I think of a male of Bibio anglicus but hesitate a lot with Bibio marci,
I don't know how to differentiate them with certainty ?

Cordially Maxime

The wing venation excludes B. marci, however, the spur on front tibia suggests leucopterus. Did you consider this species ?

No I didn't know this species. Do you have documents illustrating these Bibio like the wing venation… for me to learn ?

Please check Sundews recent post for a link to Verbeke (1971). Another option is Frreman & Lane in Handbook British Insects, or my own masterpiece (ahum) from 1997, in dutch.

Thank you very much for your documents, so for this Bibio, we can conclude in Bibio leucopterus ?

Zeegers
To me, it remains unclear. The wing seems too dark for leucopterus and the front spurs seem ok in one pic, but not ok in the other.

ICertainly not leucopterus, which has wings clearly whitish in male. I would rather incline for anglicus (but with a question mark...)

Damage thank you for your help

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
