Chironomid or Simuliidae? 5_8_1
kyle_leathers
Hi all,

I have been under the impression that Simuliidae are primarily dark but the shape of this diptera is making me wonder what it is. Collected near Mammoth Lakes CA in Summer months.

Thanks,
Kyle

That is what I was hoping to hear, thanks! What different features would a simulidae have? are the antennules or legs shorter?

John Carr
Antennae are shorter with shorter segments, and with more segments than this female. Legs are shorter. Wing veins are crowded towards the front with posterior veins faint. Eyes are larger.

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
