Beautiful yellow tachinid
pierred
Hello,

A member posted following picture on our French forum:
www.galerie-insecte.org/galerie/image/dos26/big/70705_clonas_065.jpg
chriscraft : France : 5/7/2007 : Clonas sur Var?ze : 38
altitude non renseign?e - taille : 6 mm
ref:26275

So far, the conclusion is that this is a tachinid.
Searching in the gallery of diptera.info, I only found three yellow tachinids, two Eliozeta sp. and Leskia aurea. I think the last one should exit because of the colour of the antennas.
Eliozeta hello should also exit because antennas are too close.

Is my reasoning flawed?

This is neither of the two species.

This should be Zenillia if I am not mistaken. There are 2 species, which are largely indistinguishable from photos.

Another yellowish species within Exoristinae is Senometopia, but it looks somewhat different.

This is one of my favorite Tachinids, which I saw only once.

Gabor,

Thanks for the pointer to Zenillia.
Note that the correct spelling is Zenill_i_a. Your site uses both spellings.

Thx. The library folder had the typo. It is now corrected.

Zenillia is the first thing that crossed by mind. Erycia might be an alternative.

Theo,

Thanks to you too. Zenillia is not quite sure, in this case?
Pierre Duhem

Not sure. The head is slightly out of focus, that's why.
