Stenopogon sabaudus?
Carnifex
In know that this genus is not easy to ID, but there aren't many species in Austria.
In principle S. sabaudus and S. fulvus have been reported. I don't know how the latter species looks like, so can one of these two be excluded?

Found in Lower Austria, late July

All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated.

My Diptera observations (and other living forms) can be found here, and corrections or comments over there would also be appreciated.

up (I also have the specimen, so instructions or links to keys on how to ID are appreciated)

is there really no information about how to differentiate the species of this genus?

I'll look into it at some point, but the fact that this specimen is teneral could make ID more difficult.

"teneral" what a beautiful term.... :-) But indeed that is a problem here. Besides that, according to Fauna Europaea fulvus is not present in Austria. Is there an updated Austrian checklist?
Greetings,

Yes, there is an unpublished diptera list, based on published literature, that lists S. fulvum for Lower Austria and Burgenland - that would be the area where my specimen was found.
