Hirtodrosophila confusa (now confirmed)
djo
I'm having real trouble keying this out! (Upper of the two flies in the image, I believe the lower one is H. cameraria; other details are from the upper fly, which I think is H confusa)

Is that a pre-apical seta on the mid-tibia (I think not, I think it's apical?), and if it is pre-apical, how many ventral branches are there on the arista? It looks like there are 3 (should be two for confusa), but could I claim the terminal fork is 3-way?

If it is not Hirtodrosophila confusa, what is it?

Both aspirated off a fungus in Edinburgh, Scotland (55°55'13.9"N 3°11'52.7"W)

[I had both sexes, of both species - I think - and morphology seemed to match up quite convincingly in pairs]

The upper fly is H. confusa. As concerns the preapical tibial seta, it is positined on the anterior side of tibial end (opposite to the apical seta).Your picture shows that there is no seta in ths place.

Thank you!!
