Calliphora vomitoria?
Arvid dJ
Hi, I have problem deciding if this fly is Calliphora vomitoria or Calliphora uralensis. The key I have been using says C. vomitoria have extensively orange-haired genae while C. uralensis should have black hair on the genae. My fly have orange hair in the posterior and ventral part of the genae but seemingly black hair under the eyes. When I look at pictures online I can find example of both C. vomitoria and C. uralensis looking like this (although some of these pictures may have been misidentified). The fly was caught the 8 of July in central Sweden (Dalarna). Some help on what species it can be would be appreciated.

Hi Arvid, it is indeed C. vomitoria: C. uralensis doesn't show orange hairs on the genae and it doesn't have distinct stripes on the mesonotum (Steven Falk's key, 2016).

The degree of red hairs is indeed quite variable, in vomitoria.
